Freda's Diaries - September/October 1943

Sept 18th

Christine and I went to the pictures at Selby saw The proud valley


Went to Snaith Harvest festival with Teresa and Christine on our bikes

Sept 23rd

Came back from Burn after seeing Helen Webster.

Sept 24th

Christine and I went to Samuel and Eva's for supper, played games

Sept 25th

Went to York with C bus broke down at Selby. Went to tea and pictures. Back on 10 train to Heck

Sept 26th

Battle of Britain Sunday. Home guard parade at church Arthur came to dinner. C and I went back with him. Stayed to tea. Back to Hensall Church harvest Festival. had supper with Thomas and Jessie.

Sept 27th

4 letters. War office with posting orders to Catterick. letter from Win and clothing coupons. Edna's to supper.

Sept 28th

Went to Leeds shopping. Bought navy coat, hat, shoes. Stocking etc. Home on 6 train

Sept 29th

Luggage arrived. Old air mails arrived. Supper with Bessie, Charlie and Chris

Sept 30th

Cleakheaton for the day. 3 letters

Oct 1st

Unpacking luggage, went to Heck station to find out about trains

Oct 2nd

Went to Leeds  shopping and  to pictures

Oct 3rd

Teresa half day, Mr Stead preaching at church

Oct 4th

Ironing today, packing, electricity fused. Received wedding cake from Geoff

Oct 5th

Sent luggage to Catterick, gave my presents out

Oct 6th

Saw Bessie's wedding presents. Saw Thomas about taking us to bus on Thurs am

Oct 7th

Mum and Teresa came to York with me. Met Win at Darlington, on to Richmond, then Catterick by taxi. Win and I rooming together. terribly cold

Oct 8th

On duty Ward 6 fracture ward. Saw wards 5,7,8 as am on night duty. bed in afternoon. Into Catterick shopping, shops closed. Night duty

Oct 9th

Slept all day, had 6 airmails sent up from home, a note in from mum

Oct 10th

Night duty. Got up and had tea with Win and Sister Addison

Oct 11th

A letter from Teresa. Was up at 5 to see Win

Oct 14th

Up in afternoon went to Richmond with Win, did our shopping.

Oct 16th

Walk round shops in Catterick

Oct 17th

Went to service at United Board Chapel. Full of army a few A.T.S. Albert rang up and then came to see me on the ward

Oct 19th

Went to Darlington in morning, very tired . Albert has been posted to London.

Oct 21st

Slept in. Admitted a patient at midnight from theatre

Oct 22nd

A big West African mail

Oct 23rd

Slept badly

Oct 24th

Did not go to church slept all day

Oct 26th

Went to Richmond shopping, enquired about trains home

Oct 28th

Went to cobblers and post office. No letters Slept

Oct 29th

Slept all day, new clothing coupons letters from home, Julia and Theaker

Oct 31st

Went to Methodist church lots of army there. Usual day lots of sleep still on night duty.
